Four Keys to Hangover Relief

We’ve all experienced it at some point in our lives: the hangover. After a night at the bar (remembered or not), you find yourself laying in your bed trying not to move because any turn of the head will result in nausea and pain. However, you can’t lie in bed all day because you have that important business meeting in two hours time. But, what if i told you there are some easy ways to prevent this and cure it. Check out these ways for hangover relief:

1. IV treatment.

IVs: Keys to hangover relief. Getting an IV treatment after a night out is perhaps the best way to relieve a hangover. Over at the Hangover Hospital, an IV is given to replenish the bodies much needed fluids and electrolytes. Within an hour you will be back on your feet and ready to take on your day. With a 98% success rate and a plethora of satisfied clients, this is definitely the way to go. However, of you’re not feeling up to the IV, there are more ways in which that hangover can be prevented and cured.

2. The type of alcohol consumed.

Alcohol fermentation compounds have been found to be linked to the severity of a hangover. These compounds, called congeners, are more prevalent in darker colored drinks. So the next time you order a drink, stay away from the bourbon and whiskey and opt for a light beer or vodka.

3. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Alcohol acts as a dehydrator to the body. Drinking at least 16 ounces of water before you start drinking and before you go to sleep after a night out will go a long way in preventing that dreadful hangover in the morning. If you wake up and still feel that headache coming on, drink some more. Even better, you can put an electrolyte solution in your water and knock out two birds with one stone by hydrating and replacing those much needed electrolytes back into your system.

4. What to eat before and after a night out.

Alcohol depletes and impairs your body’s absorption of certain nutrients. Specifically, vitamin A, vitamin B, potassium and zinc. Make sure that before a night out on the town, your meal is packed with these essential nutrients. For example, you could have grilled chicken, asparagus, and some sweet potatoes. The chicken is packed with vitamin A and B vitamins, asparagus provides zinc and folate, and the sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin A and offer some potassium as well.

In the morning, make sure to replenish these essential nutrients as well. Eggs are a great source of vitamin A, and who doesn’t enjoy waking up to a hearty breakfast after a wild night. Whole grain toast is a great source for zinc, and topping it with some avocado or banana will get you a strong dose of potassium.

So, the next time you head out with your friends for a night, use these four hangover relief tips to prevent and cure that awful side effect of having fun.
